GARFIELD RIDGE — Three people filed to run for the open 13th Ward seat as Ald. Marty Quinn prepares to leave City Council after four terms.
Al Cacciottolo, Skyler Cepek and Keith Judge filed nominating papers for the seat, according to the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners. Quinn announced in July that he would not seek reelection.
Cacciottolo is a longtime Garfield Ridge resident and city Department of Streets and Sanitation division superintendent. He has led the Garfield Ridge Neighborhood Watch for nearly 20 years and previously served on the Midway Chamber of Commerce board.
Quinn has endorsed Cacciottolo, who has said he wants to build on the outgoing alderman’s work providing constituent services.
Cepek works as a legislative assistant to Democratic state Sen. Mary Edly-Allen, whose 31st District covers parts of Lake County.
There is little publicly available information about Cepek and Judge’s campaign platforms or priorities.
The 13th Ward includes Clearing, Garfield Ridge, West Elsdon and West Lawn.
Quinn has represented the Southwest Side ward since 2011. During his four terms, he has pushed for a new police district on the Southwest Side and advocated for resources for neighborhood schools, parks and public safety, and emerged as a frequent critic of Mayor Brandon Johnson.
The election is Feb. 23. Voters have until Nov. 2 to file objections to candidates’ nominating papers. The Board of Elections is scheduled to certify the ballot Dec. 17.
