KUALA LUMPUR: Former world No. 1 Shi Yu Qi tied the knot with eSports streamer Jiang Dan in a private ceremony in his hometown of Nantong on Sunday.
According to BadmintonPlanet, the 30-year-old former world champion celebrated with family, close friends and members of China’s badminton community, with wedding photographs shared online drawing congratulatory messages from fans.
His longtime coach and former world champion Sun Jun attended with his wife, alongside former Chinese national player Lei Lan Xi.
Yu Qi’s father said the family had intended to keep the occasion private.
Yu Qi cut a smart figure in a suit while Jiang Dan wore a white wedding gown.
The newlyweds also took to the stage to perform Taiwanese band Mayday’s “Lian Ai ING” during the banquet.
Jiang Dan, better known online as Jiang Dan Dan, was formerly a broadcast journalist before switching careers to become an eSports streamer, covering games including Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Delta Force.
Chinese media reported that gaming brought the couple together.
Their relationship became public in 2025, with Yu Qi reportedly proposing in July before the pair announced their engagement in October.
The 2014 Youth Olympics gold medallist and 2018 All England champion claimed the world title last year, ending China’s decade-long wait for the men’s singles crown.
Yu Qi is currently taking a break from the World Tour due to injury.
His protected-ranking status reportedly began in October, with no comeback date confirmed.
