MELAKA: Former Melaka DAP chairman Goh Leong San and veteran trade unionist Gopal Kishnam will join Bersama’s campaign for the Melaka election.
Bersama leader Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli said the involvement of the two prominent figures would form part of the party’s campaign efforts.
“Bersama wishes to announce the involvement of two well-known figures in our campaign for the Melaka election.
“Goh, who served as Melaka DAP chairman from 2005 to 2015, will join Bersama’s campaign programme in Kesidang on Saturday (Nov 7).
“The event will be held at Padang Taman Asean, opposite the Xi Ling Gong Temple,” he said at a press conference at Ruang Bersama Melaka in Batu Berendam.
Goh is a former four-term DAP assemblyman who represented several constituencies in Melaka over more than two decades.
He first served as the Tengkera assemblyman from 1995 to 2004 before representing Bandar Hilir from 2004 to 2008.
He then represented Kesidang from 2008 to 2013 and Duyong from 2013 to 2018.
Meanwhile, Rafizi said Gopal, a veteran figure in Malaysia’s trade union movement, would also be involved in Bersama’s election campaign.
Gopal is currently the secretary-general of the National Union of Transport Equipment and Allied Industries Workers (NUTEAIW).
He is also the pro-tem secretary-general of the newly formed Malaysian Federation of Trade Unions (MFTU) and a former secretary-general of the Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC).
Rafizi said Gopal had officially joined Bersama as a member last month. However, details of his participation in the Melaka election campaign had yet to be finalised.
“His involvement in the Melaka election campaign will be announced at a later date,” Rafizi said.
