JS-SEZ sees RM40.3bil projects take off

KUALA LUMPUR: Some RM40.3 billion, or about 45 per cent, of the RM88.83 billion in approved investments under the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) has been implemented, with projects across the zone expected to generate 28,755 jobs.

The implemented investments accounted for 12,796 potential employment opportunities, according to a joint statement issued following the inaugural Johor-Singapore Cooperation Ministerial Committee (JSCMC) meeting today.

The inaugural JSCMC meeting was held in Singapore and co-chaired by Malaysia’s Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir and Singapore’s National Development Minister Chee Hong Tat.

Between January 2025 and June 2026, the JS-SEZ recorded RM88.83 billion in approved investments under the purview of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority.

“The ministers welcomed the progress in investment realisation,” it said.

Of the total approved investments, about 45 per cent had progressed to the implementation stage, reflecting the development momentum of the economic zone.

Both countries also welcomed investments from Singapore and Singapore-based companies referred to the Investment Facilitation Centre – Johor by Singapore.

“Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that the institutional, regulatory and operational frameworks needed for the JS-SEZ are effectively put in place,” it said.

Businesses exploring investment opportunities in the zone are being supported through Singapore’s JS-SEZ Project Office and Malaysia’s Invest Malaysia Facilitation Centre – Johor.

The JS-SEZ joint working committee also reported progress in infrastructure and utilities development, targeted investment missions and engagements, investment realisation, cross-border connectivity and talent development collaborations between the two countries.

The committee said infrastructure and utilities planning was being coordinated to align with the zone’s overall development plans and anticipated investment requirements.
