Melaka polls: BN-PN promises support for worship places, low-income families

AYER KEROH: Dedicated state financial assistance for non-Muslim houses of worship is a key commitment in the Barisan Nasional–Perikatan Nasional joint election manifesto unveiled at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) today.

The pledge guarantees direct government assistance for the maintenance, repairs and operational needs of non-Muslim places of worship (RIBI), including Chinese and Hindu temples, churches and gurdwaras throughout the state.

Alongside assistance for places of worship, the coalition has outlined inclusive housing schemes for lower-income groups, including loans of up to RM80,000 under the Bina Rumah initiative for eligible families seeking to build homes on their own land.

Unveiling the manifesto, Melaka BN chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said its 113 initiatives were drawn up to protect and improve the wellbeing of all 1.06 million residents, ensuring that no community was marginalised regardless of race or religion.

“This manifesto was drafted taking into account the needs of roughly 1.06 million Melaka residents across all walks of life, from young children and youth right up to senior citizens, regardless of race or religion,” he said.

Ab Rauf said the BN–PN governing framework ensured equitable treatment across Melaka’s multi-ethnic population, adding that long-term social harmony and mutual respect among religious communities were essential foundations for the state’s economic stability.

“The goal is to balance today’s welfare requirements with economic development capable of sustaining community livelihoods into the future, because state development must be viewed through both lenses — economic progress and the welfare of the people,” he said.

“No matter how comprehensive a manifesto is, it must ultimately be judged by the ability to deliver on its promises.

“That is why every commitment tabled is accompanied by planning, careful scrutiny, financial viability, administrative coordination and implementation monitoring,” he added.

The community and welfare initiatives form part of a broader policy manifesto themed “Building Melaka’s Future, Prospering the Nation”.
