MELAKA: Experience in handling residents’ complaints and addressing local issues are among the strengths of the two MCA candidates contesting the Banda Hilir and Kota Laksamana seats in the Melaka election.
Melaka MCA chairman Datuk Lim Ban Hong said Jasmine Loke and Melvin Chua each had at least two terms of experience as councillors with the Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB).
He said their experience had given them first-hand knowledge of local issues and residents’ needs, as they worked closely with the community and dealt with complaints on a daily basis.
These included complaints about clogged drains, overgrown bushes, long grass, damaged roads, rubbish collection, street lighting and business licensing.
“Councillors do not only engage with residents during elections. They deal with them every day and are responsible for helping to resolve the problems raised.
“I also assign them tasks related to issues raised by local associations and residents,” he said after the launch of the BN manifesto for the Klebang seat at the BN Klebang operations room here today.
Lim, who is also the BN candidate for Klebang, said not all complaints could be resolved immediately, but councillors must take responsibility and keep complainants informed of the action taken.
He said voters should consider both candidates’ experience and service records before making their decision on polling day on Nov 14.
“I therefore urge voters in both constituencies to give the MCA candidates from BN an opportunity to bring about change and provide the best possible service to the local community,” he said.
BN will contest 23 seats in the Melaka election.
The Election Commission has set Nov 14 as polling day, with early voting scheduled for Nov 10.
