Melaka polls: Rais combines online, face-to-face campaigning to reach constituents

MELAKA: From concerns over termite-infested homes to everyday neighbourhood issues, Datuk Rais Yasin is combining face-to-face engagement with social media to hear directly from constituents in Sungai Udang.

Through his “two-in-one” campaigning approach, the Barisan Nasional candidate for the Sungai Udang seat combines house-to-house visits and walkabouts with live-streaming sessions on social media, allowing more residents to raise questions and share their concerns.

He said the approach enabled him to reach people who might not have the opportunity to meet him in person, while giving him a platform to explain state government initiatives to a wider audience.

“Some people have asked about homes affected by termites. As a former state housing and local government executive councillor, I share explanations based on my experience when I held the portfolio.

“This approach complements conventional campaigning, allowing me to share information on state government initiatives while reaching voters who may not have the opportunity to meet me face-to-face,” he said.

He was speaking after a walkabout at Taman Keris Emas in Sungai Udang today.

Rais said the 14-day campaign period was an opportunity to connect with as many voters as possible through various channels, including digital platforms.

However, he said face-to-face engagement remained a priority, with his campaign activities including house-to-house visits, pamphlet distribution and listening directly to residents’ concerns.

He said his campaign also reached out to people from all communities to ensure they were engaged throughout the campaign period.

“What matters is that I visit not only the Malay community but also people of all races, including the Chinese community,” he said.

In the Melaka polls, Rais is facing a three-cornered contest for the Sungai Udang seat against Bersatu candidate Major (Rtd) Abdullah Mahadi and Ridzwan Rahman of Bersama.
