New side hustle? Man claims he cashed in over $1,000 from recycling bottles and cans at BCRS machines

Following two months of collection, a man has claimed to have received over $1,000 from recycling bottles and cans under the Beverage Container Return Scheme (BCRS).The BCRS was launched in April this year and sees consumers paying 10 cents more for each drink with the BCRS label.This amount is considered a deposit and will be refunded when the beverage container is returned at a Return Right machine.The 53-year-old shared that he works near Amoy Street Food Centre and would ride his bicycle around the area to collect empty cans and bottles after work, reported 8world on Sunday (Aug 30).He would also expand his search to the Geylang and Tanjong Pagar area, where many people would go drinking at night and leave their containers next to trash cans.The man also shared with 8world that he had collected around 100 containers that day and earns an average of $10 to $20 each weekday, with the funds credited directly to his SimplyGo ez-link card.
