HONG KONG: While most people work non-stop to save for a comfortable retirement, Hong Kong star Julian Cheung has reportedly built enough wealth to support not only himself, but the next two generations as well.
According to 8Days, his uncle, veteran actor Charlie Cho, shared the news and explained why the 55-year-old star has stepped back from acting in recent years.
Despite returning to the screen for TVB’s latest drama This City Never Sleeps—his first show with the station since playing Captain Koo in 2013’s Triumph in the Skies II—Julian has become far choosier about his projects. Speaking on presenter Wong Man Ling’s YouTube channel, Cho recalled a conversation in which his nephew said he felt burnt out by showbiz.
Offering some advice, Cho said: “I told him, if you’ve earned enough money to last three generations, then you can afford to be selective about the projects you take on. But if you haven’t, then you need to keep working hard.”
When asked if he had reached that target, Cheung replied: “Yes.”
Following his uncle’s advice, Cheung now only accepts roles he genuinely wants to do. Alongside his wife, 55-year-old actress Anita Yuen, the couple are widely regarded as one of Hong Kong’s most successful power pairs.
Beyond their lucrative entertainment careers, they have amassed an impressive collection of prime residential and commercial properties, fine art, and Anita’s valuable assortment of rare Hermès handbags.
Their fortune has also allowed them to fully support their 19-year-old son, Morton.
When Morton first moved to the UK for school, Anita went with him while Julian bought a nearby flat.
Passionate about music, the teenager has since moved to New York to study acoustic guitar under a private mentor, with his parents happily funding his artistic dreams.
