PONTIAN: Several Umno leaders have lodged a police report over the delay in implementing house arrest for former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Pontian Umno leaders, led by division chief Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Maslan, lodged the report at the Benut police station.
This came after Umno demanded the immediate implementation of Najib’s house arrest and action against anyone who defied His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia’s order on the matter.
Najib’s lawyers have also demanded that he be immediately transferred from Kajang Prison to serve the remainder of his jail sentence under house arrest following Istana Negara’s clarification that all conditions of his conditional royal pardon have been fulfilled.
Muhammad Farhan Muhammad Shafee, a member of Najib’s legal team, said there was no longer any basis for the authorities to keep Najib at Kajang Prison.
The Attorney-General’s Chambers (A-GC) today said seeking a court ruling on Najib’s house arrest did not override the King’s power to grant pardons.
It said the King’s constitutional authority to grant pardons and the courts’ power to interpret the legal effect of an order were separate matters.
