MELAKA: Pakatan Harapan candidate for Klebang, Farzana Hayani Mohd Nasir, 26, is determined to make residents’ concerns her top priority if elected.
She said several pressing issues in the constituency required attention, including recurring floods, fishermen’s jetty infrastructure and efforts to empower housewives and young people economically.
“In Klebang, we have padi farmers, fishermen, youths and women. For now, I am focusing on these four key areas.
“For fishermen in Kampung Pinang, for example, we have identified problems involving the drainage system and infrastructure. We will also work on solutions for flood-prone areas such as Murni, Kampung Seberang Gajah and Bukit Rambai.
“For women and youths, our focus is on helping housewives increase their income and creating more job opportunities,” she said during a walkabout at Taman Nirwana here yesterday.
Farzana acknowledged that she faced a major challenge from more experienced opponents but said she was ready to shoulder the responsibility if given the mandate.
She is also the youngest female candidate in this Melaka state election and said her experience contesting the Sungai Rambai seat in the previous state election had provided valuable lessons.
She said these would help ensure better-organised and stronger preparations by her campaign machinery this time.
“A four-cornered contest is certainly challenging, especially when I am up against seasoned politicians and am the only young female candidate in Klebang.
“But, God willing, we will work harder to win Klebang.
“As a native of Bukit Rambai, which is under the Klebang constituency, I am drawing on my previous experience to strengthen our efforts here and reach out to more voters,” she said.
She said campaigning activities had begun early, with various community programmes involving mosques and surau in Klebang.
In the 2021 Melaka election, Melaka MCA chairman Datuk Lim Ban Hong won the Klebang seat with 5,028 votes, defeating PKR candidate Datuk Gue Teck, who secured 4,152 votes, and Perikatan Nasional’s Bakri Jamaluddin, who garnered 3,884 votes.
