Authorities say eight people were transported to a local hospital after a driver crashed onto a sidewalk outside of the Superior Grocers store in the Arlington Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the crash was reported at about 12:51 p.m. in the shopping center in the 4040 block of Washington Boulevard.
Emergency crews assessed 10 people at the scene, with eight requiring hospitalization. Firefighters said one person suffered serious injuries, while the rest were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. They also said that two people were pinned by the vehicle.
“The LAFD did not rescue them, they were unpinned by the occupants that were standing around here,” said Battalion Chief Kenneth Cook.
Authorities say the driver was cooperating with authorities at the scene. LAPD officers said the driver was not under the influence at the time and that they’re working to determine how he lost control of the vehicle.
No additional details were immediately made available.
