JOHOR BARU: A chance stop at the New Straits Times Press (NSTP) booth at Karnival Jom Heboh turned into a winning moment for a 9-year-old boy who took first prize in a colouring contest.
Tunku Mohamad Aisy Sufi Tunku Muhamad Naufal, from Larkin, had only intended to take a short break with his family when he spotted the contest at the NSTP booth at Padang B, Angsana Johor Baru Mall, here today.
His mother, Rohana Ahmad, 39, said her son, who enjoyed colouring and frequently took part in similar competitions, decided to join on the spur of the moment.
“He had been looking forward to KJH for some time, but we did not know there was a colouring contest at the NSTP booth.
“We happened to walk past and wanted to stop for shelter. When he found out about the contest, he was excited and immediately signed up. We never expected him to win first place,” she said after the prize presentation at the booth today.
Rohana said future contests should be publicised earlier to allow children to prepare and bring their own colouring materials.
Tunku Mohamad Aisy Sufi won prizes worth RM250, presented by NSTP Senior Executive Officer of the Branding and Intellectual Property Department Wan Fazly Hizam Wan Kadir.
Adwa Zakwan, 7, from Taman Perling, took second place with prizes worth RM200, while Muhammad Yusuf Iskandar Mohd Zulfazli, 6, from Skudai, inished third, taking home prizes worth RM150.
NSTP Branding and Intellectual Property Department head Tengku Kaifimirza Tuan Cherit @ Tengku Hamzah said the booth had received an encouraging response from visitors since the event began on Friday.
He said the initiative aimed to entertain children while building familiarity with the NSTP brand among younger generations.
“Our main aim is to make parents happy by giving their children an enjoyable experience, while bringing the NSTP brand closer to families, especially the younger generation,” he said.
He thanked Econsave for sponsoring the competition prizes.
Participants also received complimentary goodie bags containing products sponsored by Julie’s, Nestle, Yakult and Nibou, as well as colouring pencils and storybooks from the Penang Public Library.
