Cabinet ministers, state leaders extend Deepavali wishes

KUALA LUMPUR: Several cabinet ministers have extended Deepavali greetings to those celebrating, calling on the public to preserve unity, harmony, and wellbeing.

Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek expressed hope that the meaningful festival would offer families an opportunity to spend quality time together and strengthen familial bonds.

“To the entire Hindu community in Malaysia, especially teachers, students, and the wider education fraternity, I extend my heartfelt wishes that this festival brings lasting happiness and wellbeing,” she said in a Facebook post.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the festive season is an ideal platform for mutual visits and fostering ties across ethnic and cultural lines.

“Amid the vibrant celebrations, prioritise personal health by observing a balanced diet. Cut down on sugar in drinks, and share more sweet smiles. For those returning to their hometowns or visiting relatives, drive carefully to ensure a safe journey,” he said.

Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari said he hoped the festival tomorrow would bring peace, prosperity, and joy to Hindu Malaysians, while advising motorists to drive cautiously when travelling back to their hometowns.

Meanwhile, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo, in a Facebook post, said he hoped that the auspicious celebration of Deepavali in Malaysia would bring happiness, peace, and renewed hope to all Malaysians.

He also urged the public to embrace cultural and religious diversity as a foundation to foster unity, affection, and mutual respect.

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali hoped the celebration would bring joy, wellbeing, and prosperity to the Hindu community celebrating with family and loved ones.

“In the vibrancy of this celebration, let us continue to nurture unity, harmony, and mutual respect, which are the cornerstones of our multiethnic and multireligious society. Happy Deepavali!” he said.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke described Deepavali as not merely signifying the triumph of light over darkness, but also serving as a reminder of the importance of noble values in shaping a civilised society.

He said Malaysia’s diversity of cultures, religions, and traditions not only enriches the nation’s heritage and way of life, but also contributes to economic progress and national development.

“Mutual respect, understanding, and acceptance of differences form the bedrock of Malaysia’s harmony and uniqueness, which must continue to be safeguarded.

“In celebrating this diversity, let us continue to uphold the values of honesty, justice, and integrity, and stand firm on the principle that what is right must always be defended,” he said.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh also extended Deepavali greetings.

Deputy National Unity Minister R. Yuneswaran hoped happiness shared during the festival would further nurture care and compassion, while strengthening national unity and harmony.

Meanwhile, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim also extended festive greetings, with both hoping the celebrations bring joy, happiness, and peace to all celebrating.
