Completion of North-South Corridor set back 2 years, LTA notes ‘significant’ construction challenges

The completion of North-South Corridor (NSC) has been pushed back by about two years as it faces construction challenges, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said in an update on Thursday (Sept 17).The 21.5km corridor is set to enhance connectivity between the northern parts of Singapore and the city, connecting towns like Sembawang, Yishun, Ang Mo Kio, Toa Payoh, Novena and Rochor to the south.It comprises an 8.8km viaduct and a 12.3km tunnel section and is expected to help relieve congestion along expressways and major arterial roads.More than 90 per cent of the viaduct and tunnel foundation work have been completed as at August 2026, said LTA, adding that construction has currently progressed to above-ground structures such as installing columns, crossheads and viaduct segments.The NSC was supposed to be completed in phases with the viaduct completed in 2027 and the tunnel in 2029.Now, the viaduct from Admiralty Road West to Lentor Avenue and the tunnel from Lentor Avenue to East Coast Parkway are expected to open in phases from 2029 and 2031 respectively, LTA said.
