PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Bersatu have not held discussions on a broader electoral pact following the signing of the confidence and supply agreement (CSA) by 13 opposition MPs.
PH communications director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the agreement was limited to the current parliamentary term and did not extend to future electoral cooperation.
“There have been no discussions on that,” he said when asked whether the CSA could pave the way for a broader electoral pact between PH and Bersatu.
Fahmi, who is also communications minister, said any member of parliament interested in signing the agreement was welcome to do so.
“For now, any MP who wishes to sign the memorandum of understanding or CSA may do so.
“There is no requirement to provide any support in the future. It is for the current parliamentary term, and there have been no further discussions beyond that,” he said.
He was speaking at a press conference after officiating the CVSKL Foundation’s Health Screening Programme for Journalists today.
Asked whether PH and Bersatu were considering a broader electoral arrangement, Fahmi said no such discussions had taken place within PH or PKR.
“For now, Pakatan Harapan and Keadilan in particular have not discussed that.
“We are focused on the Melaka election and will take it one step at a time,” he said.
His remarks follow the signing of the CSA by 13 opposition MPs, which the government has described as a positive development for political stability.
The agreement has raised questions about whether parliamentary cooperation could eventually lead to electoral collaboration between PH and Bersatu.
The agreement involved six Bersatu MPs, Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and six independent MPs who had previously declared support for Anwar.
The six Bersatu MPs were Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (Pagoh), Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin (Putrajaya), Datuk Ali Biju (Saratok), Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah (Langkawi), Mohd Nazri Abu Hassan (Merbok) and Datuk Azman Nasrudin (Padang Serai).
The six independent MPs were Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli) and Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).
The possibility of wider cooperation has attracted attention ahead of the Nov 14 Melaka election, where both sides have announced candidates in several overlapping constituencies.
