MELAKA: DAP aims to defend the four seats it currently holds in the 16th Melaka election while seeking to win three additional seats allocated to the party by Pakatan Harapan (PH).

DAP national election director Wong Kah Woh said the four seats were Kesidang, Kota Laksamana, Bandar Hilir and Ayer Keroh, while the additional seats were Gadek, Duyong and Pengkalan Batu

The Deputy Education Minister said DAP’s nationwide election machinery would be deployed in stages to assist its seven candidates, with the campaign coordinated by Melaka DAP chairman Khoo Poay Tiong.

“We will do our utmost not only to retain the four seats we won in the previous state election but also to win more this time,” he told reporters after officiating the launch of the DAP Kota Laksamana election operations room.

Also in attendance were DAP Central Executive Committee member Lim Hui Ying, Khoo and the party’s Kota Laksamana candidate Low Chee Leong.

Wong said DAP would keep its state election campaign positive, focusing on its candidates’ performance and service records rather than playing up racial and religious issues

“We will also highlight Pakatan Harapan’s record of administration at both state and federal levels as one of the foundations to earn voters’ trust,” he said.

He said voters in Melaka were increasingly mature in their ability to assess candidates who could represent them and champion their constituencies’ interests.

The Election Commission has set tomorrow as nomination day for the Melaka state election, with polling scheduled for Nov 14 and early voting on Nov 10.
