KOTA BARU: With Deepavali just around the corner this Sunday, Murugaih M. Sathasivam has begun decorating his mother’s home in Lundang, turning the family gathering place into a festive haven filled with warmth and togetherness.
The 51-year-old said decorating the house ahead of the Festival of Lights was a simple yet meaningful family tradition that brought his loved ones closer.
Assisted by his two sons, M. Sai Siddhart, 19, and Kavin, 13, as well as their cousin R. Hareetaran, 36, Murugaih said the preparations also provided an opportunity for family members to spend quality time together.
He said about 30 siblings and other relatives would usually gather at his mother’s house to celebrate the festival.
“Every year, we decorate the house simply to welcome Deepavali. It is a family tradition that we have continued over the years.
“We usually have about 30 family members gathering here, so decorating the house is one of the ways we prepare for the celebration,” he said.
The decorations, though modest, reflect the family’s festive spirit and anticipation of the joyous occasion.
For Murugaih and his family, the preparations are not merely about beautifying the home but also about preserving a cherished tradition and strengthening family bonds.
“Every time Deepavali arrives, this house becomes a lively gathering spot where relatives come together to celebrate the festival.
“We will share meals and create lasting memories here,” he said when met today.
