KUALA LUMPUR: Cabinet ministers and deputy ministers have extended Deepavali greetings, calling on the public to use the Festival of Lights to strengthen bonds of friendship and harmony, while prioritising safety.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said Malaysians of diverse ethnic backgrounds should foster a spirit of togetherness by making diversity a strength to reinforce national unity and harmony.
He said the Festival of Lights symbolised the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil and hope over hardship.
“It is in this diversity that Malaysia’s strength lies. Differences are not a reason for us to be divided, but instead form the basis for mutual understanding, respect and strengthening unity as one big Malaysian family,” he said in a Facebook post.
Fadillah said amid economic uncertainties and life’s challenges, the spirit of the festival reminded Malaysians of the importance of strength, patience, compassion and hope to continue moving forward.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he hoped that this year’s Deepavali celebrations would bring happiness and beautiful memories with family and loved ones.
“I wish everyone celebrating a Happy Deepavali. May this year’s celebrations bring happiness and beautiful memories with family and loved ones.”
Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil hoped the celebration would bring goodness and happiness, while reminding the public to exercise caution when travelling.
“Happy Deepavali to everyone celebrating. May the light of the festival bring hope, goodness and happiness to every family. Stay safe on the roads. Deepavali Nal Valthukkal,” he said in a Facebook post.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir called on those celebrating Deepavali to strengthen family ties, foster closer relationships among neighbours and nurture the spirit of brotherhood.
He also urged the public not to forget those in need so that the joy of the festival could be shared by all, while extending special greetings to Higher Education Ministry staff celebrating the occasion nationwide.
Meanwhile, Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching hoped the celebration would continue to foster the spirit of unity in diversity, which was the cornerstone of the strength of Malaysians.
She also reminded those travelling back to their hometowns to exercise caution on the roads.
