KUALA LUMPUR: Differences in views or approaches between ministries do not necessarily reflect divisions within the government, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Instead, he said such differences are part of the policy discussion and consideration process, taking into account the respective responsibilities, jurisdictions, and priorities of each ministry.
The finance minister said this is to ensure the government agenda can be implemented effectively.
“The government consistently ensures coordination between ministries is carried out systematically to guarantee policy alignment, avoid overlapping functions, and ensure every decision is made based on the people’s interests, national development priorities, and the government’s financial capacity,” he said.
Anwar, who is also the Tambun member of parliament, said this in a written reply published on the Parliament website today.
He was replying to Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (PN-Larut) regarding the reasons behind conflicting public stances between the Finance Ministry and the Rural and Regional Development Ministry.
The prime minister also gave an assurance that the government will continue to strengthen inter-ministerial cooperation, enhance policy implementation, and monitor the achievements of each initiative.
He said this is to ensure government decisions translate into tangible, sustainable outcomes that benefit the people.
He added that to ensure effective governance, every government policy and decision must go through due consideration and coordination.
“Matters requiring a collective decision will be brought for the consideration and approval of the Cabinet, in line with the principle of collective ministerial responsibility.
“At the same time, the national economic performance continues to be monitored closely based on current economic data and indicators to evaluate the effectiveness of implemented policies, while ensuring the country’s economic resilience is continuously bolstered against global economic uncertainties,” he said.
