SUNGAI BULOH: Flash floods have inundated several areas around Sungai Buloh, forcing full and partial road closures, while floodwaters entered homes and a mosque in Bandar Seri Coalfields today.
Among the worst-affected locations is Masjid At-Taufiqiah in Bandar Seri Coalfields, where floodwaters rose to waist level, submerging its prayer halls and surrounding compound.
Photographs from the scene showed muddy brown water covering the mosque’s floors, with debris and silt carried into the building.
Several men were also seen wading through waist-deep water inside the mosque as floodwaters continued to inundate the premises.
Aerial footage showed muddy floodwaters surrounding the mosque, with vehicles lining an adjacent road.
Separate footage showed a long stretch of road submerged, with traffic cones marking sections of the flooded route.
Masjid At-Taufiqiah Bandar Seri Coalfields deputy chairman Muhammad Nur Ariff Mohd Sadni said water levels began rising at 7am and had receded only slightly as of 12.32pm.
“This mosque is affected by floods every year. It has been a regular occurrence since 2017,” he told the New Straits Times.
He said mosque officials were waiting for the floodwaters to subside before beginning cleaning operations.
“We are waiting for the waters to recede so that we can begin cleaning the mosque.
“It is important that we clean the premises immediately once the water has fully subsided because the silt brought in by the floodwaters will harden if left to dry, making it much more difficult to remove,” he said.
Meanwhile, Jeram assemblyman Datuk Harrison Hassan said flooding had also disrupted traffic along several major roads in the surrounding areas.
He said the traffic light intersection at Bukit Cherakah and Bandar Seri Coalfields remained closed due to high floodwaters.
“The LATAR Puncak Alam-Sungai Buloh exit is also partially submerged at the moment,” he said.
Harrison said Taman Saujana Aman was also affected, with floodwaters reaching ankle level inside most houses.
He said water levels at the entrance to the residential area had reached knee height.
Meanwhile, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the affected areas included Kampung Melayu Subang, Kampung Paya Jaras, Jalan Kubu Gajah and Lorong Sembilan in Sungai Buloh.
Other affected locations were Taman Industri Jaya in Ijok, Jalan Seri Ajwa in Section U17, Shah Alam, and the Bukit Jelutong toll plaza area.
Ashrul said water levels across all affected locations were showing a downward trend.
He said rain had started at midnight and continued until shortly after 4am.
Harrison said the Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS) hall in Desa Coalfields had been opened for members of the public and flood victims seeking refuge.
