Govt agrees to improve career progression for senior Armed Forces officers

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has agreed to improve career progression for senior Armed Forces officers in recognition of their responsibilities in safeguarding national sovereignty and security.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the agreement was reached during a meeting he chaired with the Armed Forces’ top leadership today.

In a Facebook post, he said the move was in line with the need to strengthen national defence capabilities amid an increasingly complex global security and geostrategic landscape.

He said the meeting also reviewed the readiness of each formation, as well as defence asset procurement and maintenance needs, to ensure the Armed Forces remained operationally ready.

“I appreciate the views and direct feedback from the Armed Forces leadership because every government policy and decision must be grounded in actual needs on the ground, not merely considerations on paper,” he said.

Anwar added the government would continue to address the needs and welfare of Armed Forces personnel, adding that safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and peace was a shared responsibility.
