In 1986, Onondaga Lake reopened to fishing after sewage and industry made it infamous, and it now has more than 65 documented fish species

Swimming was banned by 1940 and fishing by 1970. Today, Onondaga Lake is the cleanest in over a century, with 65-plus fish species documented.
