SEPANG: Nine victories, including four in a row since 2022, have made Sepang International Circuit (SIC) a special hunting ground for Ducati.
Ducati Corse MotoGP communications chief Artur Vilalta said the Italian manufacturer’s relationship with Malaysia holds particular significance for the team.
He said Ducati’s success at Sepang underlined how well the circuit suits their Desmosedici GP machinery.
“The relationship between Ducati and Malaysia, particularly when we talk about MotoGP and Sepang, is very special.
“Ducati have won many races here, which shows that Sepang is a circuit that really suits the Desmosedici GP,” he said in an exclusive here on Friday.
Official MotoGP records show Ducati are the most successful manufacturer at the circuit with nine victories, ahead of Yamaha and Honda, who have six each.
Six riders have delivered Ducati’s wins at Sepang — Loris Capirossi, Casey Stoner, Andrea Dovizioso, Francesco Bagnaia, Enea Bastianini and Alex Marquez.
Ducati riders have claimed the last four editions, with Bagnaia winning in 2022 and 2024, Bastianini in 2023 and Marquez in 2025.
Vilalta said Ducati’s success at Sepang also reflected the manufacturer’s commitment to motorcycle racing worldwide, noting that their involvement extends beyond MotoGP to championships in Asia, Britain and the United States.
“We are doing very well in championships in Asia, BSB and America. I am not just talking about Malaysia, but about our racing commitment around the world.
“Our commitment is very strong in every country where we compete,” he said.
BSB refers to the British Superbike Championship, one of the major series Ducati contest outside MotoGP and the World Superbike Championship.
Ducati’s global success was further strengthened when Ryo Mizuno clinched the JSB1000 title in the 2026 All Japan Road Race Championship aboard a Panigale V4 R for SDG Ducati Team Kagayama.
According to Ducati, Mizuno’s triumph made them the first non-Japanese manufacturer to win the championship’s premier class after taking eight victories from 10 races during the season.
