Johor Umno to mobilise machinery to help BN win Melaka election

JASIN: Johor Umno will mobilise its entire election machinery to help Barisan Nasional (BN) secure victory in the Melaka election, particularly in the Jasin parliamentary constituency.

Johor Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the move was to repay BN Melaka for helping the coalition secure victory in the Johor election in July.

He said the contributions and support of BN Melaka’s election machinery, including that of Umno Youth chief and Merlimau candidate Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, who had helped BN candidates campaign in Johor, would not be forgotten.

Onn Hafiz, also Johor BN chairman, said the spirit of solidarity must translate into committed efforts to ensure BN candidates in Melaka win on polling day on Nov 14.

“We have won in Johor and Negri Sembilan. Surely, we can win Melaka for BN. We want to repay our friends in Melaka who helped us considerably in Johor,” he said at a meeting with the BN election machinery for the Jasin parliamentary constituency at Dewan Alamanda here last night.

Also present were Akmal, Johor Umno deputy liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan and Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan.

Onn Hafiz said BN had increased the number of seats it won in Johor from 40 to 48 out of the 56 contested, thanks to the concerted efforts of its election machinery and support from political allies.

He said the achievement should motivate Johor BN machinery to help ensure the coalition’s victory in Melaka.

He also expressed appreciation to Pas for helping BN candidates in designated constituencies during the Johor election, demonstrating the importance of cooperation between parties in facing an election.

However, he reminded party machinery not to take their chances for granted, but to continue working hard to ensure BN candidates’ victory.

“We know that over the past week or two, some have been disgruntled and upset, but we must set aside personal interests. What matters is securing victory for our candidates on Nov 14,” he said.
