KTMB denies ownership of storage facility destroyed in Sepang fire

KUALA LUMPUR: Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) has clarified that the storage facility destroyed in a fire at Desa Pinggiran Putra, Sepang, was not under its control or responsibility.

Instead, KTMB said the facility, which housed equipment and security management assets, was managed and maintained by contractor X-Rail Systems.

“X-Rail Systems is the contractor carrying out the Klang Valley Double Track (KVDT) Electrification Upgrade Project under the Public Works Department and Transport Ministry.

“KTMB hopes the public and media reports will correct the information regarding the ownership and management of the storage facility to avoid confusion,” it said in a statement.

It was reported that an equipment storage facility believed to belong to KTMB was destroyed in a fire at Desa Pinggiran Putra, Sepang, at 10.42pm yesterday.

An inspection at the scene found that the fire involved 10 containers, six transformers and several gas cylinders.

The fire also engulfed piles of cables and six diesel drums. Firefighting operations ended at 12.50am today.
