KUALA LUMPUR: The list for the 2027 SEA Games is finalised with 43 sports and 473 events confirmed and no room for further additions.
The decision was reached unanimously at the third online meeting of the SEA Games Federation (SEAGF) committee, attended by presidents and representatives of National Olympic Committees (NOCs) across the region.
Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) deputy president Datuk Nur Azmi Ahmad said the decision was made with the Malaysia SEA Games Organising Committee (MASOC), taking into account time constraints and the approaching international sporting calendar.
“All countries agreed on the 43 sports and 473 events decided today. This is final and no other sports can be added because time is running out.
“All member countries were clear and satisfied, and there were no objections to the list of sports,” he said after the meeting.
Padel and dancesport are among the sports included in the programme after being considered as part of five sports appeals reviewed since July.
MASOC chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Rashid Yaakub said preparations for both sports had already begun, with dancesport to be held in Sarawak and padel in Kuala Lumpur.
“Padel and dancesport were not decided at the last minute. Preparations for the venues began earlier, with Sarawak identifying a suitable venue for dancesport while Kuala Lumpur will host padel,” he said.
Abdul Rashid said about six countries had indicated their readiness to compete in padel, exceeding the minimum requirement of four nations for the event to proceed.
On overall venue readiness, Azmi said facilities in Sarawak and Kuala Lumpur were in the final stages of preparation and ready for technical inspections by the respective sports associations.
“Our venues are ready, particularly in Sarawak, where preparations began earlier. Everything in Kuala Lumpur has also been completed.
“We are waiting for technical visits by the sports associations before the full reports are submitted to MASOC,” he said.
Nur Azmi added that the confirmed list applied only to the SEA Games, with details of the 2027 Asean Para Games to be announced separately.
