Malakoff’s ‘amazing hunt’ puts sustainability in play

KUALA LUMPUR: Malakoff Corp Bhd has brought together employees, stakeholders and media representatives for the fourth edition of its Malakoff Amazing Hunt, which highlighted sustainability and environmental responsibility.

Held on Oct 31 at The Saujana Hotel, the event carried the theme ‘Powering a Greener Future’ and was flagged off by Malakoff chief financial officer Mohd Nazersham Mansor.

The hunt attracted 88 participants across 22 teams, comprising Malakoff employees, stakeholders of Malakoff and Alam Flora Sdn Bhd, mainstream media representatives and social media personalities.

The event provided participants with insights into the businesses and sustainability commitments of Malakoff and Alam Flora, while encouraging them to promote sustainable living to wider communities.

This year’s edition also brought together employees from four Malakoff power plants in Johor, Perak and Penang, alongside colleagues from its Kuala Lumpur headquarters, under the company’s ‘One Plant, One Pride’ initiative.

The initiative aims to strengthen collaboration and camaraderie across the organisation by encouraging employees from different locations and business units to work together.

Structured around the three environmental, social and governance (ESG) pillars, the hunt featured challenges covering carbon reduction, waste management, environmental protection, teamwork, ethics and transparency.

Malakoff group chief executive officer Syahrunizam Samsudin said sustainability should extend beyond corporate commitments and become part of everyday practices.

“At Malakoff and Alam Flora, sustainability is more than a corporate aspiration. Whether through clean energy, waste management or environmental stewardship, we want sustainability to be practical, accessible, and embedded into our everyday lives.

“When we use resources wisely, reduce waste, respect different views and make responsible decisions, we are already helping to build a greener and more resilient future,” he said in a statement.

He added that ensuring a reliable and affordable energy supply remained central to Malakoff’s role, particularly as Malaysia’s economic growth and the expansion of data centres and the digital economy drive demand for dependable, round-the-clock electricity.

On the participation of power plant employees, Syahrunizam said the ‘One Plant, One Pride’ initiative reinforced the importance of organisational unity.

“When our people feel connected to one another and to the company they work for, we are stronger, we perform better and we serve the nation better,” he said.

Winners were recognised across three categories: media, stakeholders and ‘One Plant, One Pride’.

The top three teams in each category received cash prizes of RM2,000, RM1,600 and RM1,200 respectively.

Team Huntastic Four emerged as champions in the media category, while Perbadanan Putrajaya won the stakeholders category.

Tanjung Bin Energy 1 took the top spot in the ‘One Plant, One Pride’ category.
