KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia outplayed Bangladesh 6-1 to register their third win in the Asian Champions Trophy (ACT) at the Olympian Surjit Singh Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar, Punjab, India today.
With the win, Malaysia are assured of a semi-final berth.
Malaysia, who won silver at the recent Asian Games in Japan, scored through Azrai Aizad Abu Kamal (14th, 22nd minutes), Akhimullah Anuar Esook (29th), Azimuddin Syakir Kamaruddin (32nd), Shello Silverius (33rd) and Nik Aiman Nik Rozemi (50th).
Amirul Islam replied for Bangladesh in the 26th minute.
Malaysia earned 12 penalty corners and converted four while Bangladesh converted one of six they had.
Malaysia, who beat China 5-4 and South Korea 3-1, have two more matches to play – against defending champions India on Sunday and Japan on Monday.
Malaysia coach Brendon Carolan said: “I think we controlled the game well and took our chances. As for Bangladesh, they did not have a good recovery after playing well against Japan yesterday (before losing 1-0).’
