BESUT: Police have arrested a 40-year-old man to assist in investigations into the alleged rape of his 14-year-old niece.
Besut police chief Superintendent Mohd Rozaime Ab Rahim said police received a report on the case today before arresting the local man at his home in Kampung Raja at 2.45pm.
He said a urine screening test found that the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine.
“The suspect also has 11 previous records involving drug-related and other criminal offences,” he said in a statement.
The victim told a family member about the incident before a police report was lodged.
The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to 30 years and whipping upon conviction.
Rozaime said police viewed all forms of sexual crime involving children seriously.
“Parents and guardians are advised to remain vigilant about their children’s safety and immediately report any form of abuse or sexual harassment to the police,” he said.
