SEPANG: Ducati Lenovo’s Marc Marquez strengthened his grip on the world championship lead after cruising to a career-third MotoGP race win at the Petronas Grand Prix of Malaysia on Sunday.
Marc crossed the finish line at Sepang Circuit in 40 minutes and 14.236 seconds. Red Bull KTM’s Pedro Acosta was second (+4.172s) while Marc’s brother Alex (BK8 Gresini Racing) was third (+5.955s).
Marc, who started from second on the grid, overtook his brother Alex, who had pole, on the opening lap and did not look back.
Acosta overtook Alex for third in the 10th lap.
Marc had previously won the premier class race at Sepang in 2018 and 2014.
Marc now has a 44 point lead over second-placed Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing) atop the MotoGP standings. Martin withdrew from the Malaysian GP due to a wrist injury.
