MELAKA: More effective traffic management systems should be explored to address congestion affecting people in the state, said acting Melaka PKR chairman Adam Adli Abdul Halim.
He said the issue was among Pakatan Harapan’s concerns, following frequent complaints from members of the public.
“How do we want to develop Smart Melaka? In my own constituency of Hang Tuah Jaya, I have received requests for the number of traffic lights to be reduced.
“Among the initiatives introduced under Smart Melaka are not only those related to traffic management, but also improvements to the delivery system and other areas.
“We can see that traffic light technology has the potential to be explored further, including the development of high-capacity smart traffic light systems,” he said.
Adam said the effort would require cooperation among various parties, as well as research and development (R&D), to identify the best mechanisms to address the problem.
“I hope there will be cooperation in conducting R&D and other efforts to develop new systems.
“We have Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), as well as traffic light manufacturers, who could work together to explore more effective traffic management systems,” he said.
He was speaking at a Lepak Santai programme with Selangor assemblyman for Lembah Jaya Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman Al-Hadad and Bentong member of Parliament Young Syefura Othman here last night.
