Melaka polls: BN-PN cooperation on strong footing, says Ab Rauf

MELAKA: Cooperation between the Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) election machinery is on a strong footing as the Melaka election campaign enters its first week.

Melaka BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ab Rauf Yusoh said machinery from both coalitions were committed to carrying out campaign activities in their respective areas.

“I am not only satisfied but also very proud and excited to see this understanding and unity as a whole. Cooperation between the BN and PN machinery is now on a very strong footing,” he said after visiting the Bukit Katil constituency operations room here today.

Also present were PN candidate for Bukit Katil Mohd Ridzuan Mohd Shariff and PN candidate for Ayer Keroh Datuk Seri Michael Gan Peng Lam.

Ab Rauf also expressed satisfaction with the commitment shown by the party machinery, particularly Umno’s involvement in campaigning for the Pas candidate in Bukit Katil, which he said reflected strong unity and understanding at the grassroots level.

He said the joint campaign efforts needed to be further refined and strengthened ahead of polling day on Nov 14.

“I have found that Umno’s commitment to working together to secure victory for the Pas candidate in Bukit Katil is very good.

“I hope this cooperation will continue, as we have only about seven days left to work together and ensure that the appointed committee members fulfil their respective portfolio responsibilities with commitment and a sense of duty,” he said.

On the division of portfolios between BN and PN, Ab Rauf confirmed that no discussions had been held on the matter so far.

Instead, the focus was on coordinating the election machinery’s efforts to ensure victory for their respective candidates.

“Not yet, but the matter has been fine-tuned at the level of our joint operations,” he said.

Commenting on Pakatan Harapan’s narrative of saving Melaka, he said BN and PN also wanted to save the state from PH.

“That is their point of view. We also want to save Melaka from PH,” he said.
