AYER KEROH: A range of welfare measures, from savings incentives for newborns to funeral assistance, forms part of the social agenda in the joint Barisan Nasional–Perikatan Nasional election manifesto unveiled at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) today.
The manifesto outlines financial assistance at various stages of life for the state’s 1.06 million residents.
“Among the approaches outlined in this manifesto is giving dedicated attention to community welfare across the entire journey of life, from the moment a child is born right through to the twilight of their years,” said Melaka BN chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.
Under the proposals, newborns in the state will receive a one-off deposit into the National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN) from January 2027.
Primary school pupils will receive transport fare assistance to attend Kelas Al-Quran dan Fardhu Ain (KAFA) classes, while secondary school students sitting the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examinations will be offered free tuition.
For youths entering the workforce, the coalition has pledged one-off technical training grants for those from B40 households pursuing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) qualifications. The initiative is part of its broader plan to create 25,000 job opportunities.
Newly married couples with a combined monthly household income of less than RM3,500 will receive a one-off cash assistance, while senior citizens will continue to receive welfare assistance. The manifesto also includes state-funded funeral assistance.
Ab Rauf said social welfare should cover people throughout their lives, rather than consist of isolated, one-off handouts.
“This approach conveys a distinct principle: that public welfare does not stop at a single station in life, but encompasses the entirety of their life cycle as an absolute commitment touching everyday existence,” he said.
“Indeed, the final arrangements before they are called to the Almighty will also be given proper care,” he added.
