Melaka polls: PH proposes early land lease extensions for landowners

MELAKA: Pakatan Harapan has proposed allowing landowners to apply for an extension of their land leases before they enter their final 10 years, rather than having to wait until fewer than 10 years remain.

Melaka PH chairman Adly Zahari said the proposal was among the pledges outlined in the Aspirasi Melaka Rumah Kita manifesto, aimed at providing greater certainty for landowners in the state.

“On land ownership, PH has proposed allowing landowners to apply for lease extensions earlier, without having to wait until fewer than 10 years remain on their leases,” he said at a PH press conference at the coalition’s operations room here today.

Adly said idle land could also be put to productive use to stimulate economic activity and increase agricultural output.

“Idle land has also been proposed for economic activities, modern agriculture and food security,” he said.

He said the proposals were part of PH’s approach to ensuring that the state’s development policies not only benefited the economy but also provided greater certainty for families and created new income opportunities.

Meanwhile, he said the Aspirasi Melaka Rumah Kita manifesto outlined three priorities and 12 aspirations, including a proposal to allocate 30 per cent of local authority work contracts to young people.

He said the initiative was aimed at creating business opportunities and providing valuable experience for the younger generation.

The manifesto also includes efforts to improve access to financing for small-scale entrepreneurs, provide special grants for women traders and increase the number of government-run childcare centres to support working women.
