SUNGAI UDANG: Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Sungai Udang state seat Datuk Rais Yasin will unveil a special pledge for the constituency after the coalition announces its election manifesto.
He said the pledge would address the specific needs of Sungai Udang residents.
“Let us wait for the state BN manifesto first. After that, I will have a specific pledge for the people of Sungai Udang, so stay tuned,” he told reporters at the BN Sungai Udang main operations room in Bandar Baru Sungai Udang.
Earlier, during the nomination process at the Rela Training Academy’s multipurpose hall in Sungai Udang, he was accompanied by senior Umno and Pas leaders, including Umno vice-president and Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Pas vice-president Datuk Idris Ahmad; Umno Supreme Council member and Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Anuar Nasarah; and Pas Central Working Committee member Senator Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz.
The former state executive councillor for housing, local government, drainage, climate change and disaster management is facing a three-cornered contest against Major (Rtd) Abdullah Mahadi of Bersatu and Mohd Ridzuan Abdul Rahman of Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama).
In the 2021 Melaka state election, the Sungai Udang seat was won by Perikatan Nasional candidate Dr Mohd Aleef Yusof, who secured 6,789 votes with a majority of 530.
He defeated BN candidate Datuk Seri Mohamad Ali Mohamad, who received 6,259 votes, Pakatan Harapan candidate Hasmorni Tamby with 2,035 votes, and independent candidate Mohd Zahar Hashim with 471 votes.
Following the election, BN formed the state government, winning 21 of the 28 state seats, while PH secured five and PN won two.
The campaign period for the 16th Melaka state election will run for 14 days, beginning today. Early voting is scheduled for Nov 10, while polling day is set for Nov 14.
