Motorcyclists flag slippery Putrajaya road after repeated crashes

PUTRAJAYA: Motorcyclists are raising the alarm over a stretch of road linking the Maju Expressway to Putrajaya after several riders claimed to have crashed at the same spot, particularly during rainy weather.

The issue has gained traction on social media, with a video showing a motorcyclist skidding on the wet road drawing more than 256,000 views on Threads.

The video, posted by Threads user harithhamdan on Nov 6, shows a motorcyclist losing balance and falling while about to merge lanes on a wet stretch of the Putrajaya ring road after the Maju Expressway, with the caption: “Be careful riding in the rain.”

“I broke my shoulder, my wife suffered a concussion that caused memory loss,” he wrote.

User nurnaqiahmahadzir said she and her husband crashed at the spot on Oct 17 while it was raining, less than three weeks before the video was posted.

“There is a black line on the road that makes it slippery and road users do not notice they are about to fall,” she wrote.

Responding to her, harithhamdan said: “It’s true, there is an uneven surface when merging with the main road there.”

User hanzwindscreen claimed motorcycles had fallen at the location many times before and that he had nearly fallen there himself.

“I myself nearly fell there because of a pothole before this. Then they resurfaced it.

“The problem is the resurfacing used a slippery surface like black paint,” he wrote.

User aminharis_ also pointed to the same black line on the road surface.

“There is a black line (not tar) in that area of the road. Whenever it rains, that black line is automatically slippery even if you ride slowly,” he wrote.

Putrajaya Member of Parliament Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin has also responded to the issue on Threads.

“I will look into it and follow up with the relevant parties,” Radzi replied.

In a similar incident in September, a viral video showed several motorcyclists falling on a rain-soaked green-painted stretch of the Federal Highway motorcycle lane near Subang.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi later said the lane would be resurfaced and fitted with a 40kph speed limit sign.

The New Straits Times has reached out to the Public Works Department and Maju Expressway Sdn Bhd for comment.
