Najib undergoes medical check-up as house-arrest process remains pending

KAJANG: Datuk Seri Najib Razak underwent a medical check-up at Kuala Lumpur Hospital amid reports that he will leave Kajang Prison to serve the remainder of his jail sentence under house arrest.

A source said the former Pekan member of parliament was likely to return to prison after completing the medical check-up.

Several administrative matters at the prison must first be settled before he can begin serving his sentence under house arrest.

The source said authorities were still awaiting confirmation on the process before further details could be provided on Najib’s movements.

“As of now, I am not sure (about him returning home) because I understand there are still processes (pending) at the prison that need to be addressed first,” the source said when contacted.

Asked whether Najib would return to his residence in Langgak Duta, the source said this could not yet be confirmed.

However, the source said that Najib was supposed to return to his residence once the necessary processes were completed.

Earlier, a Proton X70 carrying Najib left the Kajang Prison complex at 2.37pm. The vehicle was escorted by police and Prisons Department vehicles.

This came after it was reported that Najib’s lawyers had paid the RM50 million fine in relation to the SRC International case.

The payment paves the way for Najib, 73, who has been held at Kajang Prison since Aug 23, 2022, to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
