KUALA LUMPUR: Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) payments to the next of kin of Malaysians who perished in the Nepal-Tibet flood tragedy are expected to be disbursed on Nov 4, according to Malaysia Solidarity Families in Hope (MASFIH).
MASFIH coordinator and spokesperson Dr Manivannan Rethinam said several families had been informed of the development by Perkeso, which was expediting the collection of supporting documents to facilitate the payments.
“Following the meeting with the Human Resources Minister on Wednesday, Perkeso began contacting the next of kin of individuals who were eligible for payments yesterday,” he said in a statement.
Manivannan said MASFIH had also helped facilitate the process by coordinating contact details of the next of kin after highlighting several communication challenges at the initial stage.
He said the coordination had helped streamline communication and enabled the families concerned to be contacted directly for documentation and payment arrangements.
Meanwhile, MASFIH is still awaiting the government’s decision on the special financial assistance for 54 Malaysian families affected by the tragedy.
Manivannan said the organisation hoped the matter would be discussed at the cabinet meeting today and result in a positive decision, followed by an official announcement and concrete measures to assist the affected families.
He said MASFIH would continue working with the authorities and relevant agencies to monitor developments and ensure that the welfare of all affected families continues to be given attention.
