Penang rep alleges double standards in PKR’s disciplinary action

GEORGE TOWN: Pantai Jerejak assemblyman Fahmi Zainol has questioned PKR’s disciplinary consistency, alleging double standards in the party’s handling of misconduct claims against elected representatives.

In a social media post, the former Penang executive councillor questioned the status of party action against another assemblyman recently implicated in a police investigation.

“What is the fate of the recent case involving a Keadilan (PKR) assemblyman?” Fahmi asked.

“As a party member, I feel the treatment has been different, all positions stripped and immediately sacked. Now what does PKR secretary-general (Datuk Dr) Fuziah Salleh have to say?

“Justice has ceased to be justice (Keadilan tidak menjadi keadilan),” he wrote on Facebook.

Fahmi maintained that raising internal grievances did not amount to disloyalty to the party.

“Having lived in loyalty for so long, speaking out does not mean betrayal,” he added.

Earlier this year, Fahmi was suspended from his PKR party posts and removed as a state executive councillor after being charged in court with voluntarily causing hurt to his wife.

He is contesting the charge.

His remarks follow recent reports of a police investigation involving another Penang lawmaker.

He denied being involved in the latest alleged domestic assault involving a Penang assemblyman.

“The latest case involving a Penang assemblyman is not me,” he was quoted as saying.

Penang police said last week that they had recorded statements from four people, including a Penang assemblyman and his wife, over an alleged domestic assault involving the couple.

Penang police chief Datuk Dennis Lim confirmed that a police report had been lodged and investigations were ongoing under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which deals with voluntarily causing hurt.

No arrests have been made.
