I don’t believe the ancient right to silence under interrogation and the rule against being tried twice for the same offence could have been abolished without the mass panic that followed 9/11…
PETER HITCHENS: The nightmare of 9/11 became a pretext for a new age of repression, stupid wars and censorship. How I miss the freedom, light, joy and humour that existed before. But will we ever get them back? I see no sign of it
