PM recalls late pondok founder’s advice, encouragement

PASIR MAS: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was visibly moved as he recalled his close relationship with the late founder of Madrasah Ar-Rahmaniah Ad-Diniah, Abdullah Abdul Rahman, during a gathering with about 200 congregants tonight.

Anwar spent more than 10 minutes sharing his personal experiences and memories of the late religious scholar, whom he said had played an important role in encouraging and strengthening his resolve more than 20 years ago.

Anwar said he was deeply touched by his visit to the religious institution today as he continued to hold the late Abdullah in high regard and had always prayed for him.

“Although circumstances have changed and my position has changed, I will not change.

“When I visited this madrasah more than 20 years ago, the late Abdullah gave me a lot of advice, encouragement and confidence in myself,” he said.

Anwar said although the late Abdullah was known for being strict in his teaching, he had always been generous in offering advice and support.

He said the late scholar’s encouragement had left a lasting impression on him, particularly during challenging periods of his life.

“That is why I felt deeply touched when I arrived here earlier. I remembered how a great religious scholar had supported me and contributed so much to my journey,” he said.

Anwar said he hoped the legacy and struggles of the late Abdullah would continue to be upheld and elevated, particularly through efforts to strengthen the role of pondok institutions and Islamic education.

The Prime Minister is on a one day visit to Kelantan today.
