Rasah MP questions A-GC delay in Negri MB coercion probe

KUALA LUMPUR: Cha Kee Chin (PH-Rasah) has questioned why the Attorney-General’s Chambers (A-GC) has yet to decide on the investigation into Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim’s claim that he was forced to sign a proclamation seeking the removal of the state ruler.

Cha said the people of Negri Sembilan wanted to know the status of the case, as police had submitted the investigation paper to the A-GC on Sept 29.

“We want to know whether the menteri besar was really forced. If so, who forced him? Take appropriate action under the law.

“But if he was not forced, what action will be taken? This is an integrity issue involving the Negri Sembilan menteri besar,” he said.

Cha was debating the 2027 Budget, also known as the Supply Bill 2027, at the committee stage in the Dewan Rakyat.

“I don’t know what the answer is as of today.

“But as of Oct 21, I was told the police are waiting for a decision and further instructions from the A-GC on the investigation paper.

“If the police sent it to the A-GC on Sept 29, I don’t blame the police. They have done their job,” he said.

Cha said, as a member of parliament in the state, he was very concerned as constituents are asking questions on the matter.

He also questioned whether the A-GC had sufficient manpower to handle its workload.

He said the number of posts under the A-GC’s budget allocation remained unchanged at 2,001, while its management expenditure increased from RM166 million to RM190 million.

“My question for the A-GC is: do you have enough people to do the work? Many cases are delayed.

“Anyone who has helped the public with certain cases knows delays from the A-GC are often heard of,” he said.

In a written reply on Oct 21, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said police recorded statements from four people in connection with Ismail’s case, with further action depending on the A-GC.

The claim stems from an allegation on Sept 5 by four disputed Negri Sembilan Undangs that Ismail had willingly signed a proclamation seeking to remove Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as Yang di-Pertuan Besar.
