SHAH ALAM: About 70,000 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2026 candidates in Selangor will receive free breakfast throughout the examination period under an expanded state nutrition programme.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the initiative was aimed at helping candidates perform better in their examinations while providing support and boosting their morale.
“The state government is finalising arrangements to provide meals for 70,000 SPM candidates, who began sitting their examinations late last month.
“During the examination period, we will provide breakfast or suitable meals for these students. The implementation details will be announced soon,” he told reporters after the symbolic handover ceremony for the Nutrisel and Mega Nutrisel 2026 programmes here today.
Separately, Amirudin said the Mega Nutrisel programme, which is expected to end next week, had benefited 993,670 students across Selangor.
He said the figure covered 962 schools, including fully residential schools, vocational colleges and Form Six colleges.
“The programme provides a one-off meal to all students. The meals are less substantial than those under the regular Nutrisel programme because we want to reach more than 993,000 students.
“In Shah Alam alone, nearly 120,000 students have benefited,” he said.
Nutrisel is a state initiative providing free breakfast to more than 100,000 students in 962 schools from Aug 3 to Dec 3.
The programme involves an allocation of RM14.4 million and targets students from households in the B40 group earning below RM2,000.
The initiative was expanded through Mega Nutrisel in mid-October as part of the state government’s efforts to strengthen nutritional support for students.
