HULU KLANG: “He (Cico) is gone.” Those were the heart-wrenching words of veteran entertainer Uji Rashid as she wept in the arms of her friend, Datin Norizan Yeob, shortly after her son Cico Harahap’s remains arrived at Surau Taman Bukit Mulia in Bukit Antarabangsa at 4pm today.
Norizan, the widow of the late composer Datuk S Atan, was seen comforting Uji during the emotional moment. Speaking to reporters, she said that while Uji appeared calm on the outside, she was deeply devastated by the loss of her beloved son.
Cico’s remains were brought to the surau from Ampang Hospital, where several fellow artistes—including AR Badul, Aziz M Osman, Rozita Rohaizad, and Mak Jah—had gathered to pay their final respects.
The actor, whose real name is Ezzaq Farrouq Harahap Jamaludin, died at Ampang Hospital at 11am today, aged 48.
He had been admitted a week ago after experiencing breathing difficulties.
Initially placed in the intensive care unit (ICU), he was moved to a general ward last Thursday.
He is expected to be laid to rest at the Ukay Perdana Muslim Cemetery later today.
Meanwhile, Persatuan Seniman Malaysia (Seniman) secretary-general Hafiz Nafiah paid tribute to Cico, noting that he had brought significant talent and creative energy to the local film industry since the early 1990s.
“Cico began his acting career in 1993 through the film Kekasih Awal dan Akhir. Following that, he gained wider recognition through the drama series Puteri Impian in the late 1990s,” Hafiz said in a statement.
“Throughout his involvement in the entertainment industry, Cico starred in several silver-screen productions, including Anak Mami and Anak Mami Telah Kembali, which demonstrated his role in the development of local cinema.
Beyond that, he also gained acting experience in other productions, such as the 2016 film Operation Mekong.”
Hafiz added that Seniman’s leadership and executive committee extend their deepest condolences to the family and pray that Cico’s soul is blessed and placed among the righteous.
