SINGAPORE: Mediacorp actors Hong Ling and Nick Teo are expecting a baby girl — though the couple were so convinced they were having a boy that they initially wondered if there had been a mistake during their gender reveal.
The couple, who married in 2023, announced the news on Instagram on Nov 2, sharing a clip of the reveal filmed the previous week.
In the video, dressed in matching white outfits, Ling, 32, and Teo, 37, waited as two cars approached them — one decorated with a pink bow and the other with a blue bow.
The cream-coloured car eventually drove forward, opening its boot to release a shower of pink and white balloons.
Teo playfully announced the arrival of their “new boss” in the caption, writing: “Well, looks like we’ve got a new boss coming soon! But my wife is still going to be the ultimate big boss… or so she thinks.”
Ling later explained that she and Teo fully expected a boy, partly because their traditional Chinese medicine doctor had predicted a son.
“Nick and I had always thought it would be a boy. We were genuinely shocked when we found out it was a girl!” she said.
The couple were so certain that they even questioned whether the people holding the results — Ling’s father and her younger sister, local tattoo artist Casiline Ang — had “read the letter wrongly”.
Ling joked that she was worried her father might misread the note or miss the moment entirely, as he had seemed confused when they first broke the pregnancy news to the family.
Thankfully, her sister was right there to help.
Ling revealed that she had originally wanted to wait until the birth to find out the gender.
But Teo was too eager to know, which led to the reveal party. She added that she had no real preference, as she would have been thrilled either way.
“I love Nick so much, so of course, having a little boy who reminds me of him would be very sweet. At the same time, I’m very close to my mum and sister, so I would also love to have a daughter whom I can share that special mother-daughter bond with,” she said.
With a girl on the way, Ling is already looking forward to picking out pink outfits and Barbie-themed items.
The parents-to-be are taking things step by step and have yet to choose a name or shop for baby essentials. Their daughter is due in 2027. This is Ling’s second pregnancy, after she shared that she suffered a miscarriage at 11 weeks in 2025.
