#SHOWBIZ: Why singer Iman Troye lets her mother manage her earnings and allowance

KUALA LUMPUR: Singer Iman Troye has revealed that her mother has managed all her earnings since she entered the entertainment industry at age 16.

Iman—whose real name is Siti Nur Iman Alyssa Sahabudin, 24—told Harian Metro yesterday that she prefers leaving her finances in her mother’s hands, as it helps keep her spending in check.

She receives a fixed monthly allowance and manages her budget around the amount.

“My mother keeps my earnings, and every month, she gives me an allowance. I make do with whatever amount she provides for that month.

“If I want to buy anything, I have to inform my mother and ask whether or not I am allowed to purchase it,” said Iman.

The singer added that her parents’ support and blessings have been essential throughout her career.

“I also want my mother and father to feel that this money is theirs, because where I stand today is a result of their blessings.

“It was my own choice; sometimes we can be extravagant, and I feel more secure knowing my mother is the one holding my earnings. So, if I want to buy something, I must seek her opinion first,” she said.

Iman also shared that she considers herself quite sensible with money and actively chooses local products over international brands.

“I am proud to see an increasing number of local entrepreneurs with the courage to build their own businesses and, in the process, break into overseas markets.

“I truly enjoy supporting local products. Each one possesses its own unique creativity and identity, while still preserving Malaysian elements and our traditions,” she said.
