The budget beyond the budget

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s federal deficit is projected to narrow from 3.6 per cent of GDP in 2026 to 3.3 per cent in 2027. Yet the deficit of the consolidated public sector is projected to widen from 6.0 to 7.0 per cent. Both figures deserve attention. They describe different parts of the same fiscal picture.
