KUALA BERANG: Two policemen were injured when their patrol car skidded and overturned several times while trying to avoid a group of monkeys in the middle of the road at Kilometer 4 of Jalan Simpang Bukit Kepah–Tapah, Kampung Kepah, this evening.
Hulu Terengganu police chief Superintendent Sharudin Abdul Wahab said police received information about the accident about 4.30pm.
The driver, Muhammad Amirul Hafiz Ahmad, 26, suffered a fracture to his left arm, while his colleague, Khairil Azlan Abdul Latif, 44, sustained jaw pain.
He said both officers from the Hulu Terengganu district police headquarters’ Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Division were on patrol duty when the incident occurred.
“Their Honda City patrol car was travelling from Simpang Kepah towards Kuala Berang when they encountered a group of monkeys in the middle of the road.
“Initial investigations found that the driver tried to avoid the animals by steering to the right, but lost control of the vehicle, causing it to skid and overturn several times,” he said.
The officers were taken to Hulu Terengganu Hospital by an ambulance from the Civil Defence Force for further treatment.
Sharudin said investigations found that the accident occurred along a bend, where the road surface was wet from rain.
