Fahmi: Auku amendments to be tabled in Parliament in December

PUTRAJAYA: The Cabinet has agreed to the Higher Education Ministry’s proposal to amend the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (Auku).

Government spokesman Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the amendments would focus on provisions that restrict students’ freedom.

“In this regard, the Cabinet has agreed for the amendments to be tabled in Parliament during the current sitting in December.

“The amendments to Auku are specifically intended to remove provisions that restrict students’ freedom,” he said at his weekly press conference.

Fahmi said new legislation to replace Auku would also be introduced within a reasonable timeframe.
